The Laboratory of Geocultural Analyses (GEOLAB) was founded in 2002 as an institute within the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation (DFLTI) of the Ionian University, located in the island of Corfu. GEOLAB is an educational and research institute, founded by Presidential Decree 9/2002. Its research and educational programmes extend in the fields of international relations, governance, economic geography, geopolitics, political science, comparative law, diplomatic history, international economic relations, economic crime (AML, Corruption), European institutions, intercultural studies and foreign languages, countries’ and culture-studies. GEOLAB is situated at the centre of the city of Corfu. Besides support from Ionian University, GEOLAB receives no additional government funding. Contributions are received from foundations, corporations, and individuals. Other revenue is generated from research and scientific services, as well as the sale of publications, which include the “Library of the Laboratory for Geo-cultural Analyses”. The Interim Rules of Procedure are included in the PD 9/2002 by which GEOLAB was established in the framework of the Ionian University / Department of Foreign Languages Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI). GEOLAB contributes in the international exchange of expertise by cooperating with foreign institutions worldwide, by participating in research projects and organizing training and education programs, which enable academics, professionals, private and public institutions to address the challenges ahead.
